Vernon & Velma Oatman opened the business in 1977 and in December 2003, their son and his wife, Kem & Kimberly, took over ownership. The business started out directly south of the current location along Highway 2, then moved to the current location in September 1981. In 1995, the business was expanded to include a large parts room and office space, then in 2015, some much needed footage was added onto the north with additional shop space.
Where V-Bar is currently located used to be an old homestead and every so often stuff will resurface (nails, glass, etc.) from the homestead. You never know what you'll find!
We received the GROW Award from the Chamber of Commerce & the Business Innovator Award from the Custer Economic Development Corporation in 2015.
